Bihar Horror: Girl Gangraped in Ambulance During Homeguard Recruitment in Gaya
Gaya, Bihar | July 24-25, 2025 —
A shocking incident unfolded in Bihar’s Gaya district during the ongoing Homeguard recruitment drive. A young girl fainted while running during the physical test, and while being taken to the hospital, she was allegedly gangraped inside the ambulance by the technician and driver. The accused later threatened her to stay silent and fled after admitting her to the hospital.
What Happened

On 24 July, the girl had come to participate in the Homeguard recruitment at BMP-3 Ground in Gaya. During the running round, she collapsed and fainted. An ambulance present at the venue was called to take her to the hospital, but no female staff accompanied her.
According to the victim, after being laid in the ambulance, the technician first sexually assaulted her, pretending to provide medical aid. He allegedly used a spray, which made her even more unconscious. Later, the driver stopped the vehicle in a deserted area and raped her.
Both the technician and driver took turns committing the heinous act — the technician inside the moving ambulance, and the driver after halting it at an isolated location.
Hospital Revelation and Police Action
After regaining consciousness at Magadh Medical College, the girl narrated the incident to a lady doctor, who then informed the police. A case was registered and immediate action was initiated.
Arrests Made, Evidence Collected
Based on CCTV footage and route tracking, police found that the ambulance had gone off-route for a brief period before reappearing on the main road. Forensic teams collected evidence from the ambulance.
Both accused were arrested on the same day, 24 July around noon. They were identified as:
Driver – Resident of Utran, Gaya
Technician Ajit Kumar – Resident of Chandpur village, Nalanda district
Police seized the clothes of the victim and both accused for forensic testing. The accused were interrogated till 5 PM. A special team under the SP’s orders, with help from FSL experts, conducted investigations that confirmed the victim’s account.
Shocking Negligence: No Female Escort in Ambulance
This brutal crime has raised serious questions about protocol violations. Why was the unconscious girl sent alone without a female official in the ambulance?
Police officials, including SSP Anand Kumar and Homeguard Commandant Ritesh Pandey, have not responded to queries about this lapse. A press note claimed the police were ensuring public safety, but failed to explain why a female escort was not present during medical transport.
Recruitment Continues Despite Tragedy
On 26 July, the Homeguard recruitment drive resumed in Bihar. The recruitment was announced on 27 March 2025, with the last date to apply being 16 April. The drive is being conducted across 37 districts for 15,000 positions, including 909 seats in Gaya.
The physical tests began on 21 May and are scheduled to continue till 26 July, at BMP-3 Parade Ground-2.
Final Note: Will Justice Be Enough?
This tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage. A young woman who came hoping for a government job was brutally assaulted in state custody. Even if the accused receive the death penalty, will that undo what happened?
The real failure lies in the system — which was supposed to protect her.
